Use a proper newsletter tool OR hold upgrades until an alternative is ready (I'll be working on a worker ultrasimplemailer that'll come as soon as possible (read: During the next couple of months)).
I used to use Broadcast from mailworkz as a standalone app, but they've discontinued it and now provide an online service. I've heard good things about www.campaignmonitor.com and I'm planning to use it for an upcoming project with 100k emails to be sent to a database for a large drinks company. If the project gets the go ahead at their board meeting this Friday, I'll be looking into thir API to integrate it into the Umbraco site the recipients will go to in order to register for a number of drinks related events planned for the Summer.

Oddly enough this is something I'm about to pitch to one of our clients, if we're successful I'll be working to do some tight knit Umbraco integration.
I'll keep you posted on our developments, I'd be more than happy to share code, etc.
I have chosen to start out with an umbraco 3.0.5 (upgraded to 3.0.6) and made my newsletter service there. That way I can create a direct linking area to my homepage and at the same time have all my newsletters available to users if they want to go into the archive. And then I can also link to the pages online if people are not able to see the newsletter in their email program. That way I get to do 3 things at the same time with no extra effort.
[Solved] UltraSimpleMailer or Mass Mailer
Hey everybody,
I see that UltraSimpleMailer and Mass Mailer are both incompatible with Umbraco V4 RC3. Then how do we send out our newsletters :^o.
Thanks

Can you suggest a proper newsletter tool? Thanks.

We've used Campaignmonitor as well - it's awesome!
